Kefir is a fermented beverage which is bursting with natural goodness. It has a high content of healthy bacteria and can have a beneficial effect on gut health and digestion. The name comes from the Turkish word Keyif, which means ‘feel good’. And that’s exactly how we want you to feel when you drink our kefir.

The Kefir Company’s Young Coconut Water Kefir is a daily essential which was created to keep your belly happy. We aim to make the best tasting and highest quality coconut water kefir you can buy. Our hydrating shots of young coconut water kefir are fermented, raw and unpasturised. The kefir shots have all the benefits of raw coconut water, without the sugar, as well as the benefits of fermentation. Every bottle of kefir is made by our hands in small batches to ensure you’re receiving the best possible product to enjoy in your morning or evening routine.

The Kefir Company uses young coconut water instead of sugary water or dairy for fermentation. We wanted to offer an alternative for people avoiding irritating milk proteins, like casein. The liquid of the young coconut also has an abundance of minerals and its natural sugars make it the perfect medium for the growth of beneficial microflora. The kefir eats the sugar in the coconut water to create a effervescent and tangy drink.

We think less is more so we use a small number of carefully selected ingredients in our drinks. We use premium raw coconut water from the South Pacific. We hand drill each coconut and extract water from it and use this to make our kefir. The coconuts are all individually inspected because quality is important to us. There are no fillers, preservatives or nasties in our kefir, plus there’s no added sugar or water, and it’s caffeine-free. It’s pure, simple and nourishing. Our drinks are alive and are never pasteurised (a process of sterilisation which can destroy the natural probiotics) because we want you to enjoy all the benefits possible. We use starters to ferment our coconut water because they have been proven to contain different strains of good bacteria. We add inulin in the form of Chicory Root Extract to act as a prebiotic for our probiotics to feed off.

When you’re born a vast population of bacteria create their home on your skin, inside your gut, and in your nose and mouth. The gut (gastrointestinal tract) is a tube which begins at the mouth and runs to your derriere. The gut microbiome is a mini-ecosystem made up of trillions of microorganisms, mainly comprising of bacteria, and their genetic material which live in your intestinal tract. The gut bugs are fundamental to your health and well-being.

If your gut bacteria are fed well they’ll co-operate and help things run smoothly. Issues arise when you feed the troublemakers, who’ll take any opportunity they can get to proliferate and turn a healthy gut into a colony of unfriendly bacteria. Stress, processed food, excess sugar, antibiotics and today’s overly sterilised environments are feeding these unfriendly bacteria and are wreaking havoc on our microbiome.

“Issues with gut health and associated diseases are on the rise and more and more research points to the lack of microbial harmony in our modern-day diets and lifestyles as being the issue,” Carla Oates wrote in her book, ‘The Gut Guide’.

“When there is an imbalance in the bacteria in your gut, you may experience fatigue, allergies, mental health disorders, bloating and skin and autoimmune conditions. In contrast, when your gut lining is strong and there’s a good balance of bacteria in your gut you can experience good health, vitality and glowing skin.”

Kefir may help you digest your meals, assist in the absorption of nutrients, remove toxins and protect you from disease. Coconut water kefir contains electrolytes, beneficial enzymes, B vitamins, potassium, and a powerful punch of probiotics. We now know that lots of probiotics of a wide diversity is key to a healthy and happy gut. A happy gut is important as it plays an important role in your overall health, immunity, metabolism, mood, skin, weight and ability to concentrate.

Scientific studies have found evidence to support kefir’s health benefits. These include improved digestion, an anti-bacterial effect, improved blood sugar levels, anti-allergenic activity and healing effects. Studies also show that consuming lacto-fermented foods can assist in the reduction of systemic inflammation, and probiotics can help eliminate disease-promoting pathogenic bacteria in the gut.
